Nationally, there was a court ruling on the case Dobbs v. Jackson that overturned the ruling on Roe v. Wade, the case that allowed abortions to be legal in the United States. Because of this, it is now up to the state to recognize the legality of an abortion rather than having the choice be federally protected.
Locally, Trenton’s St. Francis hospital merges with Capital Health, leaving only 1 open hospital in the city. Despite the fact that the hospital has been financially struggling, there is still an immediate concern about how medical care will be served in a city with 90,000 residents and only one hospital. Executive director of Trenton Health Team Greg Paulson admits that this transition of power within the hospital is representative of the business model of health care and the changes happening in health care delivery everywhere.
This is the year of personal history because a lot happened! This year I got confirmed through my school's religion class, graduated 8th grade, and started my freshman year of high school. For Christmas this year, we got all dressed up, went ice skating at Rockefeller center, and saw our first Broadway show Beetlejuice as a family. It was incredibly memorable because it's the first professional show I have seen, but also because it was more inappropriate than my mom remembered.
